RRRC in the Agricultural Industry

RRRC has built a strong network and positive relationships with the agricultural industry in Queensland.

Agricultural run-off has been identified as a major threat to the water quality of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR). The agricultural industry in the GBR Catchment area is responding to the challenge of improving farming techniques to reduce farm pollution.

RRRC coordinates and manages a number of research programs in the GBR and its catchment and works hard to maintain the agricultural industry as a key partner in those programs. The coordination of the Reef Rescue Research and Development Water Quality Program (Reef Rescue R&D) has provided the RRRC with a direct avenue for communicating the latest information about research on water quality benefits from improved agricultural management practices to the peak industry groups.

RRRC has established and maintained excellent relationships with representatives from a range of industry peak body groups including the Queensland Farmers Federation, Canegrowers, AgForce and GrowCom. Our professional staff strive to ensure that the latest research is accessible to the industry, and facilitates involvement of industry representatives in guiding future research. Industry representatives also participate in stakeholder working groups coordinated by the RRRC, including the NERP Water Quality Implementation Group that has a guiding role in the implementation and delivery of the research program.
